Watch the The I ii iii IV Progression online guitar lesson by Vicki Genfan from Rhythm Makeover: Vicki Genfan

This is a I-ii-iii-IV chord progression in the key of A. Our chords are A-Bm-C#m-D. It’s an ascending bass line progression and a lot of classic hit songs use it - ‘Here there and Everywhere’ by the Beatles, Bob Dylan’s ‘Like a Rolling Stone’, or the chorus in Don Henley’s ‘The Heart of the Matter’. The first approach uses chords in 1st position and employs the use of hammer ons and pull offs. It’s got a real bouncy feel to it. The second approach takes us up to the higher frets, with tighter voicings, no bass notes and more of a jazz-funk feel.
