Watch the The I bVII IV Progression online guitar lesson by Vicki Genfan from Rhythm Makeover: Vicki Genfan

This is a I-bVII-IV progression in the key of G. Our chords are D-C-G-G. We’ll be playing this in 5/4 time which means there are 5 beats to each measure. The first approach uses chords in first position and simple pull offs. There’s a single line bass note turn around at the end of the phrase. The second approach takes us up higher on the neck using only the 1st, 2nd and 3rd strings. The rhythmic figure we use is very stacatto and ends up leaving a lot more space in the groove than the first approach.
