Watch the Essential Licks online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Play Rock Guitar 9: Advanced Lick Vocabulary
This section is not for the faint of heart! These licks will take some practice to get down. You will find a wide range of styles covered here, but the thing they have in common is they are all great licks designed to push your chops over the top!
TIP! How should you practice with a metronome? There are a couple of things you should do when working with the metronome. First off, always write down your settings. If you worked on a piece at 80 beats per minute, write it down. Then tomorrow you may want to speed up to 85. Or you may want to slow it way down to 60 and critique your technique. Either way - write it down!
The other common problem is trying to go too fast too soon. A metronome only helps if you are actually playing in time with it. It helps you stay in time. If you are trying to go too fast too soon you will just end up playing off the beat anyway and not getting the benefit. So play slowly at first, and only when you are in total sync with the metronome at that speed should you speed it up a few clicks. Then get it down there, and then bump it up. Slooooowly. Take your time and really work with a metronome and you will see a huge difference in your playing.
