Groovy Glasses - Breakdown is a video guitar lesson presented by Jeff McErlain and is sourced from Play in the Style of Billy Gibbons.

This solo is not incredibly difficult to play physically. Yes of course it does require time, effort, and skill along with some technique, ok so I guess it is difficult... But what makes this solo so tricky is the groove. We have that incredibly funky and cool background track and it provides the pulse for the whole performance. Notice how most of the licks in this performance start on an offbeat. That really adds to the funky feel of the groove as it provides a sense of forward motion. It is also important to pay attention to how laid-back the feel is. I know I am always trying to get as laid-back of a feel as Billy Gibbons. Sometimes it's not all that easy! :-) It's important to be able to sing the solo to yourself in your head prior to attempting to play it. That way you know you have internalized exactly what it is you were trying to play and it is not guesswork. That's good advice for anything you try to play!
