Conversational Phrasing - Concept 6 is a video guitar lesson presented by Jennifer Batten and is sourced from Rock Sauce For Lead Guitar.
When you listen to a great story teller, you get drawn in and want to keep listening and eagerly await the next chapter and conclusion, hopefully on the edge of your seat. Everyone knows what it's like trying to have a conversation with someone that motor mouths. Those types typically like to hear themselves talk. They'll ramble on endlessly and fatigue the listener, and most often don't listen to others well. Think of your solo like a story. You want to start out by setting up the scene and intrigue the listener. Then you need to add some drama and build the solo in one or more of a myriad of ways until its conclusion. The last thing you want to do in a solo is to start out flying as fast as you can i.e. motor mouthing. Then you have nowhere to build, and the listener goes numb well before the end.
