Watch the Using Triads to Play Changes: 1 online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Play Rock Guitar 4: Rhythm Approaches

We'll play the song "Tapping On Devon's Door" using open chords, then select an area of the neck to play the first chord. Find a C-A-G-E-D shape such as the C shape, 10th fret A string, G shape 10th fret E string, and E shape 8th fret E string. Now look for smaller voicings inside those chords such as the D,G,B,E strings. Look how closely grouped these chords are. I'll add some embellishments to show you some possibilities of using these type of chord voicings.
