Before you study the notes, analyze the rhythm and syncopation first. It's actually very basic. By starting on the 4th note of the scale in this chord, it adds tension to the sound. You could keep repeating this line behind a soloist and it would sound great. Write lines like you're writing them as background parts behind soloists. If they stand up by themselves and sound good, then you have a good line. A line has to make sense on its own to sound good. Don't waste notes. You'll know when a line is good or bad the more you get accustomed to this language; you'll hear it. Hum lines in your head all day when away from your instrument. I do it all the time.
