Chattanoogie - Lick 5 is a video guitar lesson presented by Jason Loughlin and is sourced from 30 Country Jazz Licks You MUST Know.
Jimmy Capps is a great session guitarist who has played with everyone from The Louvin Brothers to Kenny Rogers on The Gambler
. He was also the house guitarist for the Grand Ole Opry for decades. He's Nashville royalty. He started with Louvin Brothers in the early 60's, playing electric guitar but became more in demand for his acoustic playing in the 70's. He can also be heard with JJ Cale, Dolly Parton, Ronnie Milsap, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Buddy Emmons, and Faron Young. You can hear Jimmy Capps' instrumentals on the compilation record Tennessee Guitar
, or go to his site for new music. Yes! He's still picking great guitar.
His early electric playing has two strong influences: Chet Atkins and steel guitar. He has a wonderful way of playing chord melody solos by using voicings that come right from pedal steel guitar, even his single note playing evokes the sound of pedal steel. Somehow he does this without bending a single string. Very unique guitarist. This lick comes from his instrumental called "Chattanoogie Bound". It shows off his ability to evoke the sound of a steel guitar without bending strings.
