Watch the Wes' Blues online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Play Jazz Guitar 6: Soloing Approaches

Wes' Blues - Breakdown is a video guitar lesson presented by Frank Vignola and is sourced from Jazz Up Your Blues.

We start with the chords. We play a groovy little rhythmic pattern using two note chords. The melody is all about groove starting with an octave riff. The first octaves we play are enhanced by adding the 4th in the middle of the octaves. (D - G - D). On the C9 chord we play the same octave riff. On the E7 we change up the notes a bit using the same rhythmic pattern. On the D7 chord we are holding a high G on top of a cool classic guitar riff. Try bending up to the Db while holding down the high G on the 15th fret. A classic sound that can really add loads of groove to your solo. Try adding a chord instead of the octaves to start the phrase. You can have the same opening question and play a different answer. So change it up rhythmically and also change up the notes and create your own ideas based on these jazzed up blues riffs.
