In to Peg - Lick 15 is a video guitar lesson presented by James Hogan and is sourced from 50 Jazz Rock Licks You MUST Know.
Steely Dan's "Peg" features one of the greatest and most recognized solos in jazz rock history. I'll never forget the first time I heard this solo as a kid while driving with my aunt in her convertible 1978 MGB. When this solo came blasting through the radio's speakers, even at a young age I knew that it was special.
While Jay Graydon was already known to Donald Fagen and Walter Becker at the time as a reputed L.A. studio ace, he was allegedly the 7th soloist called to lay down this track. They'd already been through guitarists Elliott Randall, Dennis Budimir, Robben Ford, Rick Derringer, Walter Becker himself, and even saxophonist Tom Scott without getting what they wanted. According to Walter Becker, Graydon came in and knocked it out without much ado. I can't imagine any other solo on this song.
This lick is the opener to Jay's "Peg" solo. It's comprised of some trademark Graydon double stop slides & bends. Dig it!
