Fareed's Trade Secret #2 - Walking Bass Lines is a video guitar lesson presented by Fareed Haque and is sourced from Jazz Comping Survival Guide.
Playing bass lines on the guitar is an important skill, useful in many different accompaniment contexts, especially guitar and voice or guitar and any other instruments. Always keep in mind, the bass lines we are playing are an octave higher than an actual bass, so they will be less practical, or good sounding the higher the notes are. Personally I'm not a big fan of walking basslines on guitar. It's a bit gimicky to my ear, and not really useful. Though some cats have made it amazing - Check out Martin Taylor, Joe Pass, Ted Greene, Tuck Andress. I prefer to keep the lines grooving and low, rather than busy and up high. But both work. Make sure to syncopate the guide tones against the bassline as in the example provided. (Written out example of walking bass lines).
