Watch the Piggish online guitar lesson by Angus Clark from Play in the Style of David Gilmour
Here we're working in a zone reminiscent of Dark Side of the Moon where Gilmour's tone was definitely fuzzier than it became later on. Main thing to pay attention to is the use of 6ths to create a more compelling rhythm guitar part. He also plays blues-like at the turnaround which is the kind of thing most of us guitar players have tended to remove from our "basics" when we're cutting rhythm parts.
This kind of thing is part and parcel with the classic rock aesthetic, so keep it in mind the next time you're cutting tracks. Throw a lick in there, you'll be glad you did. The producer can always have some studio wiz re-cut it, or punch over it. Then you'll know what happened after you left the room.
