Watch the Li'l Beaver online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Play Country Guitar 9: Advanced Lick Vocabulary

Li'l Beaver - Lick 26 is a video guitar lesson presented by Ray Nijenhuis and is sourced from 50 Western Swing Licks You MUST Know.

This medium fast single note 4 bar lick in Bb perfectly fits the first four bars of a blues. It can also be played during a 1, 6, 2, 5 progression, like rhythm changes for example. It is reminiscent of Eldon Shamblin's hard swinging electric lead playing in the forties. He will always be remembered for his fantastic rhythm playing. But we should not forget that back in the late thirties he was one of the first ever electric lead guitar players. Eldon and Charlie Christian, the other pioneers of the amplified guitar, both hail from Oklahoma where they did radio work. For years Eldon had been playing big archtops but when Leo Fender gave him the first custom color gold finish Stratocaster in 1954, he never looked back.
