The Picking Hand - Concept 10 is a video guitar lesson presented by Roberto Dalla Vecchia and is sourced from Solo Flatpicking Handbook.
Now let's talk about the picking hand, a crucial concept. We all need to spend enough time training our picking hand to be even, clean, and strong. Many of the tools in this section are useless without a well-trained right hand.
Most of the time I like to rest my hand on the top of the guitar, sometimes the heel of my hand will be lightly touching the pins at the bridge, and sometimes I brush the top with my ring and pinky fingers.
For my pick, I like to use heavy picks which give a nice and warm sound that I really enjoy. Picks come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and thicknesses. It's a good idea to go down to your local music store and buy a variety of picks so that you can see what works best for you.
The angle of the pick on the string is something to be aware of, a key element that affects the tone you have on your guitar. This is more of a personal preference, but I have found that I prefer to angle the pick downward.
