Watch the By The Sea online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Play Country Guitar 6: Soloing Principles

By The Sea - Breakdown Part 2 is a video guitar lesson presented by Ladd Smith and is sourced from Modern Nashville Guitar.

I like these 'Roll-offs' which are like pull-offs involving three or more notes. Yes, I'm trying to single-handedly invent new guitar terminology. As I mentioned in Breakdown 1 - I remember hearing similar guitar sounds on songs like "He's got you, I've got Mexico" by Eddy Raven in the 80's and then later songs like "Two Pina-Colladas" and nearly any Kenny Chesney song released in the summertime. It's important for us to understand how to approach a theme in the studio, and especially a theme that comes up as often as the Jimmy Buffett inspired country radio friendly song. This is a good example of a mixture of several approaches that have always worked for this type of song, but it's not set in stone that you have to do a staccato dual note sliding lick on every one of these songs. My point here is it's important to learn what's been done if you hope to do something that hasn't. My angle on it is very much inspired by Reggie Young, Dave Kirby, Brent Mason, Pete Wade, James Burton, Brent Rowan, Gregg Galbroth and Chris Leuzinger.
