Acoustic - Concept 11 is a video guitar lesson presented by Jason Loughlin and is sourced from Country Guitar Survival Guide: Rhythm.

Country tunes are usually built around someone strumming an acoustic. Most songs are written on acoustic and whether we want to admit it or not, not everything revolves around electric guitar. You maybe you're a singer fronting the band or you may be the only guitarist in a band and when you go to record you have to lay down some acoustic guitar. This is an important roll is often trivialized. You're not just laying down the basic harmony, you're solidifying the accents that effect the way the rest of the band plays. You are serving more as a percussion instrument. A good trick is to think of yourself as shaker track and you accents as the tambourine. If you always strum the same rhythm for every song guess what? You're limiting how dynamic you can be as songwriter and what the band can do...oh and you're bumming everyone out. You need know some go to patterns for different country styles. I'll show you a handful of way to practice shifting accents.
