Watch the Minor Pentatonic with 6th online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Play Blues Guitar 9: Advanced Lick Vocabulary

Minor Pentatonic with 6th - Concept 8 is a video guitar lesson presented by Jeff McErlain and is sourced from Blues Guitar Survival Guide - Lead.

Here is another interesting pentatonic scale that I learned from a Robben Ford video years ago and it really stuck with me. In this case we are replacing the b7 of the minor pentatonic scale with the natural 6th. The scale formula becomes R b3 4 5 6. Interestingly enough it provides the 3rd and b7 of the IV7 in a blues. So without changing anything we have covered the tonal quality of the IV7 chord, while adding a softer sound on the I7. Fortunately it sounds great on the V7 chord as well. A cool practice tip: Just use this scale exclusively when jamming on a blues for a few days, try to ignore the standard pentatonic scales, this really helps to solidify the scale in your head and playing.
