Watch the Dominant Pentatonic Scale online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Play Blues Guitar 9: Advanced Lick Vocabulary

Dominant Pentatonic Scale - Concept 7 is a video guitar lesson presented by Jeff McErlain and is sourced from Blues Guitar Survival Guide - Lead.

The Dominant pentatonic scale is a very cool scale to dive into the mixolyidan scale painlessly. The scale is basically an minor pentatonic scale with a raised 3rd giving us R 3 4 5 b7. What is so cool about this scale is that it contains a dom7 arpeggio so we don't encounter the clash we do with the b3 in the minor pentatonic scale. The scale is much brighter than the standard minor pentatonic scale. I also like that we can take familiar blues licks and just change the b3rd to a natural 3rd to really change up the sound of things. I highly suggest jamming over a static I7 chord vamp like the one I provided to get the sound of the scale into your head. Jeff Beck uses this scale quite a bit in his earlier days.
