Watch the Elmore James Style: Open E online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Play Blues Guitar 7: Slide Approaches

Elmore James Style: Open E - Performance is a video guitar lesson presented by Andy Aledort and is sourced from Slide Guitar Power.

Elmore James was without question one of the greatest practitioners of playing slide guitar in an open E, and open E-type tuning, so it is essential to study his playing and learn a handful of his licks as they provide a major ingredient in the study and development of the language of blues slide guitar. A great many of the Elmore James slide classics are played as mid-tempo shuffles, such as "Dust My Broom," "Sweet Home Chicago," "I Believe (My Time Ain't Long)," among others. In the accompanying example, I remain stationed primarily in 12th position for the slide licks, while quickly moving back down the fretboard to play the chordal accompaniment.
