Open E Tuning - Tuning and Essentials is a video guitar lesson presented by Andy Aledort and is sourced from Slide Guitar Power.

As stated, to tune your guitar to open E, leave the sixth, second and first strings - E, B and E - tuned normally, and tune the fifth and fourth strings up one whole step and the third string up one half step, resulting in a low-to-high tuning of E B E G# B E. Strumming across all the strings sounds an E major chord, and laying a fretting finger or the slide across multiple strings at a given fret yields major chords relative to the fret position. When using the slide, the tuning enables big, fat major chords that can be treated with vibrato for a great classic slide sound. And with open E the capo becomes extremely useful so that one can change keys but still take advantage of all of the open strings.
