I was introduced to this Turkish traditional ballad by Michele Shalon, who I met in Glasgow, Scotland. Her father was the US ambassador at UNESCO and her family was then living in Ankara. I was struck by the naked beauty and minimalism of this melody. She knew the words, but I went on to play and recorded it as an instrumental on my Musiques album. I played it live in the north of France once, and someone in the audience of Turkish nationality started to sing the words along with it. A memorable moment, but I still don't know what the words are about.
