Nine White Kites - Breakdown: Bars 20 - 43 is a video guitar lesson presented by Peppino D'Agostino and is sourced from Acoustic Poetica.
On measure 20 a new melodic line starts and this time it is shared between the 1st, 2nd and 3rd strings. The melody in this section of the tune needs to be highlighted and played louder than the arpeggios on the bass notes. The best way to do this is to learn how to sing the melody before you actually play it on the guitar! By trying this simple experiment your fingers eventually will learn how to play the bass softly and it will allow the melody to stand out. At the end of measure 21 make sure that you have the l.h. index, middle and ring respectively on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th fret of the 2nd string in order to make it easier to bend the string from D# to E. The last note on measure 23 (F# 3rd string open) needs to be sustained until the end of measure 24 while you play the bass arpeggio at a lower volume with a slight crescendo up to the end of measure 25. Pay attention to the down and up strokes with the l.h. index finger on the bass as you sustain the melody underneath on measures 28, 29 and 30. The five frets slide from G# to C# is quite challenging because you have to stop exactly on the 7th fret of the 3rd string and sustain the note as you reach it with a slight vibrato.
