Watch the Extensions: Connections online guitar lesson by Pat Martino from The Nature of Guitar

We've focused on the different positions in ascent, so for this lesson I'll focus on the different positions in descent. Instead of moving through various key centers in single positions, in this lesson I'll move through the positions in descent in single tonalities. In doing so, you'll gain a greater insight into the connections that are created as we move down the fingerboard through the stairways that are revealed.

In each of these, the entire fingerboard becomes the topic. This reveals the fluidity of the neck and the complete range that is opened up in an improvisation. The main objective here is to demonstrate the totality of the fingerboard becoming in tune with any key center. See pages 68-70 from Section B of New Fundamentals for further study.
