If you keep in mind that the diminished form itself has a great deal to do with options, then it's easy to see its relationship to the dominant seventh chord family as well as the minor 7th chord family. Seeing these two chord forms as derivatives of the diminished forms and relating it to improvisation applications will help us create a multitude of options that are at our disposal.
