Watch the Comping Performance online guitar lesson by Larry Carlton from 335 Improv

This video offers a quick run-through of the changes as you might play them while comping on "Smiles and Smiles." The chord voicings and rhythmic motif described in the previous lesson are applied here and shown in action. You can follow along with the notation.

Please keep in mind that this course is not about learning my tunes, even though you will pick up a few good tips if you ever want to take those on. I'm using excerpts from my tunes not only because they fit the applied principles that we're discussing in the course, but because you will find similar harmonic structures and challenges in thousands of other tunes.

So, even though we're working with a specific tune, consider how the same principles - motivic development, comping principles, paying attention to the melody, common tones, triads, and so on -- can be applied across all of the tunes in your own repertoire.
