Notice the dramatic effect you can get with tone knob swells. I find this an expressive technique resembling the human voice. Spend some time and experiment with this technique (especially if it is new to you) and see what you come up with. While the tone swells sounds great over single notes, they can be even more dramatic when used with various chord voicings (video at 9:17) a la Speedy West (the pedal steel player who played with Jimmy Bryant, both very big influences on my playing).
