Watch the Up a Flat 3: Alt. Dom. Sound online guitar lesson by Kenny Wessel from Shades of Jazz

In this segment I'm going to play over the same F7b9b13 vamp but will switch between playing an F7 arpeggio (F, A, C, Eb) and the Ab minor pentatonic scale. The F7 chord tones are 1, 3, 5, b7 and the Ab minor pentatonic will give us these degrees: b9, #9, #11, b13 and a chord tone, b7. Listen to the interplay between the chord tones and the altered tensions. It's great to practice this, being able to target the chord tones and also being able to target the altered tensions. We're trying to get familiar with consonance and dissonance, tension and release, as it relates to the harmony we're playing over.
