Watch the Whole Tone Scale online guitar lesson by Tom Dempsey from Jazz Scales Handbook
The second symmetrical scale we're going to cover here is the Whole Tone scale. As the name implies, the Whole Tone scale is built in consecutive whole steps. Because of this, the scale itself is a six note scale. The symmetrical nature of this scale offers unique possibilities for creating interesting angular lines that can be played in a variety of settings. Plus, given the way the guitar is set up, we're able to play this scale up and down the neck with relative ease.
