Watch the Lydian Dominant Lick online guitar lesson by Tom Dempsey from Jazz Scales Handbook
This lesson will focus on showing you a four bar musical idea that is derived from the sound of the Lydian Dominant scale. It will be played over a static C9#11 chord with a bossa nova groove. The sound of this idea is very interesting as it can be played over a regular C7 or C9 chord as well as one with a #11 or b5. By bringing the tritone into the idea, we're able to add more sophistication to the line. That little bit of tension goes a long way in adding interest to the lick.
