Watch the Lydian Augmented Scale online guitar lesson by Tom Dempsey from Jazz Scales Handbook
For our next scale, we're going to investigate the Lydian Augmented sound. This is a seven note scale that can be thought of as the third mode of the Jazz Melodic Minor scale as well. It shares all of the same notes, but in a different order.
In this lesson, I'm going to show you how to play one fingering of this scale in fifth position. I'm also going to show you the fingering for the parent chord arpeggio, which is the Maj7#5 chord. Additionally, I'm going to show you how this sound is represented over other chords that are diatonic to this mode and the related Jazz Melodic Minor scale.
