Watch the Solo Breakdown online guitar lesson by Gil Parris from NYC Rhythm & Blues

I'm continuing to break down the Soul Serenade solo. I'll begin to delve into some of my call and response motifs and creating an overall musical flow. Some of these are ideas that are more common to sax than to guitar but they'll help your musicality tremendously once you get a grip on them.
This is a very classic frame of mine and it's a rhythmic idea that is very unique to my own playing. Drums were my first instrument and I definitely feel that rhythm is the most important aspect of improv, not melody. The rhythmic thrust definitely takes precedence over the melody. I'll also delve into some Albert King bends and really show you how to do his bending style with the guitar strummed in the traditional manner.
