Watch the Pete McCann online guitar lesson by Bruce Arnold from NYC Jazz Guitar Summit

Pete McCann has been an integral part of the New York City jazz scene for 25 years. He has released four critically acclaimed CDs as a leader; Extra Mile (Nineteen-Eight), Most Folks (Omnitone), Parable and You Remind Me of Someone (Palmetto). A sought-after sideman from duos to big bands, he has appeared on over 80 CDs. McCann has performed with Kenny Wheeler, Dave Liebman, Lee Konitz, Patti Austin, Brian Blade, Bobby Previte and the Maria Schneider Orchestra. He received his music degree from the University of North Texas and teaches at City College of New York and the New School in New York City.

The focus of this series is parent scales. Pete takes a look individually at the major scale, harmonic minor scale, melodic minor scale, and Lydian scale and then gives a demonstration of their harmonic applications. The final lesson is a jazz standard that demonstrates the discussed material, and things wrap up with an interview where Pete discusses New York City jazz.
