Watch the Major 7th Chord online guitar lesson by Bruce Arnold from NYC Jazz Guitar Summit
Over his career, Gene has performed and recorded with many wonderful musicians. Some are Dave Liebman, Al Foster, Rashied Ali, Harvie S, Slide Hampton, Carlos Santana, Archie Shepp, Reggie Workman, Tigran Hamasyan, and Ravi Coltrane. Currently, Gene is composing for an upcoming trio album due for release early 2013. Gene is a veteran member of the NYC jazz scene and can be heard at venues such as the Blue Note, the 55 Bar, Bar Next Door, and ShapeShifter Lab where he directs the weekly Sunday afternoon jam session. Gene is also a member of a NYC music/arts collective - the Kettle. The collective will present member concerts, private instruction, group workshops, and look to work with other like-minded international and domestic music collectives in intellectual and artistic exchange. The topic of Gene's workshop is chromaticism in jazz improvisation. Gene often gets questions from his students about how to apply chromaticism in the style of the masters like Chick Corea and John Coltrane. In response to this he has put together a method throughout the years that will have you taking an in-depth look at how to tastefully pepper your jazz improvisations with chromatic lines like the jazz greats.
