Watch the Embellished Melody 2 online guitar lesson by John Stowell from Modern Chord Melody

Embellished Melody 2 - I've found that a concept that I develop and subsequently expand on when writing or performing can always have broader applications to the music in general. Some lessons I've learned from the embellished melody of this tune include the importance of letting a theme "breathe", whether that melody is played in time or rubato. All chord shapes have applications in other places on the neck, in some cases in relating directly to the original chord. This tune, with its use of two major chord inversions in several keys as variations on E minor, has reinforced my desire to think about multiple applications of any chord fingering: I'll apply what I discover in writing, accompaniment, and for using these shapes as templates on the neck to create improvised single lines.
