Watch the IV Chord: A1 online guitar lesson by Mark Stefani from Jazzed Blues Assembly Lines
With this lesson segment we begin to address harmonic possibilities for the IV (F7) chord in a C blues. These will be two-bar phrases, targeted for use in measures five and six of a 12-bar progression, but also flexible and applicable to other situations. The lick opens up with some cool sliding sixths that are based on the F dominant blues sound, followed by a powerful C blues scale lick that sounds effective against the F chord. We'll also discuss its value over the C7 chord.
