I have said this a thousand times (and I probably will say it another thousand before I am through! ):it NEVER sounds bad to play the blues! This is especially true in complicated and fast paced songs where you want to give the solo some grounding/stabilizing anchor to hold the song together. The blues scale brings the tune down to earth and provides the grit necessary to keep a complicated piece from becoming to ethereal or academic. Remember, no matter how tricky a piece may be, the audience doesn't need to know this!
