Watch the All Blues online guitar lesson by Robert Conti from Jazz Master 2

This volume examines a twenty-four measure improvised solo over the chord progression to Miles Davis' "All Blues." The progression was chosen for its learning value of line application over a subject chord progression.

As a general practice, waltz time in the jazz idiom is typically written in a time signature of either 6/8 or 3/4. However, in my ongoing quest to make the learning process as easy as possible, and since those time signatures are mathematically equivalent, I elected to present the notation and tablature in 3/4 time, rather than a 6/8 time signature. By doing so, I was able to spread each 12 measure solo in 6/8 time over 24 measures in 3/4 time for much easier reading and visual assimilation. Remember, two measures in 3/4 time are the same as one measure in 6/8 time.

The course format will first present the solo played in its entirety against a backing track. The solo is then broken down into bite-size chunks of measures where Robert steps you through the fingerings, theory and techniques employed.

This TrueFire instructional player offers you several useful learning elements: 2 video lessons for each segment, a jam track to practice your lines over, a PDF of the notation and tab, and a PowerTab file which allows you to "hear" and "see" the tab played out at any speed without changing pitch. Just start digging in and exploring the various elements and player controls - you'll get the hang of it quickly and the learning process will be greatly accelerated.

Enjoy, play hard and practice smart!
