Watch the Measures 13-14 online guitar lesson by Robert Conti from Jazz Master
In my opinion, the majority of your progress will be made while you are watching the video and duplicating each line that I present. Therefore, after playing the solo, the camera is then focused tightly on my left hand to provide an optimum view of every fingering I utilize. This will allow you to grasp the material as quickly as your current level of skill will allow. A recording of a live jazz performance is very much like a photograph in that it captures and documents a musical moment in time that is not likely to occur again exactly as it did the first time. The video medium also serves that purpose very well, as it will allow you to listen and watch every facet of the solo as many times as you wish to do so. I encourage you to live, eat and breath the video segments until you're completely comfortable with the material. The art of advanced improvisation is certainly specialized. Depending on your current level of musical knowledge and technical proficiency, some of the lines may seem difficult or even overwhelming at first. However, I urge you to stay focused on your goal and work on very small segments. With practice, you will be able to master all or the majority of the solo. As an additional learning suggestion, I urge you to continuously experiment with each of the lines, as that activity will dramatically increase your level of comprehension and playing proficiency.
