Watch the The Blues online guitar lesson by Henry Johnson from Jazz Expressions
For me, the blues is the first thing I learned how to play. The first thing I noticed was how it made me feel. And as I listened to more jazz, I realized that it had the same thing going on. I realized that the blues are the core of jazz, so no matter what kind of jazz it is, it still has the blues in it. My personal combination is blues and bebop, which work together great, and all of the jazz masters have used them: Wes Montgomery, George Benson, etc. It's because it generates emotions, and without that, it's boring for me!
