Basics of latin jazz come from two sources: Brazilian music and Afro-Carribean music, nowadays jazz is coming from every Latin American country, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia (and many more) but initially Brazil and Cuba were the biggies:
Brazilian guitar is based on Samba, a drum style and bossa nova, a melodic often slower, more urban style.
