Watch the Fast Bebop Soloing online guitar lesson by Andreas Oberg from Jazz Combustion

Andreas explores the expansion of various rhythmic and melodic ideas that encompass his approach to improvising over a tune like “Cherokee.” A good solo should start at a certain level and build to a crescendo through the use of these rhythmic and melodic ideas, or motifs. These motifs can bring cohesiveness to the solo for the listener, as well as offer up inspiration for new ideas, which are then used as jumping off points for new motifs within the improvisation.
