Written by British bandleader Ray Noble, “Cherokee” wasn’t a hit until Charlie Barnet’s instrumental recording hit number 15 on the pop charts. Even so, it wasn’t considered an improvisational standard until Charlie Parker took the tune under his wing in the early forties.

Andreas performs the progression of “Cherokee” in this video which features a 64-bar progression consisting of a 16-bar A part which is then repeated, followed by a 16-bar B part. The tune finishes with a return to the A part, bringing us back to the beginning of the progression.
