Starting on the open B string (where we left on in Phrase 3), we do a little "bouncing" technique (or a pedal point) at the octave on the 12th fret, then play the open string between each note, going down to the 10th fret, then back to the 8th, 7th, and leading into the E minor chord (playing the third of the chord [G] here).
All the notes you hit in the scale will be downstrokes. This is something that you can practice all over the fingerboard. The idea is just to be clean, playing upstrokes on the open strings and downstrokes on the fretted notes. So, that takes us through Phrase 4.
