Watch the Minor Swing online guitar lesson by Andreas Oberg from Gypsy Jazz Duets
Andreas offers up tips for effective use of the la pompe rhythm – the driving 4/4 rhythm commonly associated with Gypsy jazz. Rhythm guitar is an important part of Gypsy jazz, as it replaces the drums. Andreas covers adding triplets and a shuffle feel for different textures, as well as when to back down to allow room for the soloist by staying loose and relaxed. The driving beat is an important part of the sound, but the volume shouldn’t overpower the lead instrument.
