Watch the Odd Meters online guitar lesson by Mimi Fox from Flying Solo

Playing in Odd meters requires you to listen hard! They are called "Odd" meters because they are not usual... this means because we don't play them very often we are not as familiar with the under-lying grooves. But remember that all complex time signatures can still be broken down to simple meters with a little math! 7/4 can broken down into 4 and 3 and the same goes for any complex time signature. The trick is to play things in odd meters often enough so that you can begin to feel comfortable and no longer need to count in your head. Practice taking songs you know really well in odd meters.
