Watch the Bebop Improv Survival Guide online guitar lesson by Fareed Haque from Bebop Improv Survival Guide

I hope you've enjoyed this journey into the world if BeBop! This is one of the most difficult, musical and beautiful of all jazz forms. We've explored the basic arpeggios, practiced building lines using chromaticism, practiced connecting chords, and then adding chords to lead from chord to chord in new and interesting ways.

Remember that playing music is NOT theory or arpeggios or scales or principles or rules! It's melody and groove and rhythm. After much exploration, you might come up with one or two ideas that really work, and that's more than enough material to work with. Work on taking a few cool ideas, licks and varying them and playing them in many keys tempos situations. Start them on different notes, play 'em backwards, in different tempos, different time signatures and especially play your licks on different string groups and in different keys. Be creative and you'll find that creativity, like any muscle, strengthens and develops the more you use it.
