Watch the Connect Chords: Basic Bebop online guitar lesson by Fareed Haque from Bebop Improv Survival Guide
In Section 4, we will start jamming together while we work on connecting chords and arpeggios to create melodies. Remember that all the practice room time in the world wont get you ready for the gig.
A lot of BeBop (or any musical style for that matter) is time, groove and phrasing. You wont get that from an arpeggio or a scale...but you can get that from a record, a jam session or another player....in this case, ME, Dammit!
Listen not only to the lines but to where the notes land, how they SWING, and how ideas are connected together.Leep on checking out the greats to hear how they do it. Grant Green, Kenny Burrell, Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, Tal Farlow, George Benson, Herb Ellis, Jimmy Raney, Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery to name a few. I often suggest folks start with Grant and Kenny ' cuz their ideas are great, clear and sometime easier to play for new BeBoppers.
