Watch the We Want Stern online guitar lesson by James Hogan from 50 Jazz Rock Licks You MUST Know

The Miles Davis album "We Want Miles" featuring Mike Stern changed my life. When I first heard that record I was aspiring to learn jazz guitar but wasn’t ready to give up my Les Paul’s, Strats, old Marshall’s and years of honed skills playing rock, blues, funk, and metal. Stern’s playing with Miles was exactly what I was looking for. Great jazz lines and bop vocabulary with a rock edge and bluesy phrasing.

It seems that every great guitarist has a signature lick. This one is Mike Stern’s. He plays this in virtually every solo. It’s a good old A minor pentatonic lick that Stern usually plays between outside sounds and bop infused lines to give the listener a landing point. Dig it!
