Watch the Without The Bridge online guitar lesson by Tom Dempsey from 50 Jazz Master Licks You MUST Know

One of the biggest influences on me as a guitarist and musician has been and continues to be Jim Hall. His playing is always so poignant, motivic, interactive, lyrical and swinging. One of the must have recordings in any jazz fan or musicians collection is the Sonny Rollins album The Bridge. Jim Hall was part of Sonny Rollins' band in 1962 when this album came out. It was actually dubbed as Sonny's comeback album as he had taken an early retirement in 1959 to pursue his musical voice more intimately. He was known during this time to play on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. This excerpt is inspired by Jim Hall's performance on Without a Song on that recording.
