Watch the Baby Rake online guitar lesson by Tom Dempsey from 50 Jazz Master Licks You MUST Know
One of my favorite guitarists was Oscar Moore who unfortunately often gets overlooked. He was an integral part of the Nat King Cole Trio when he recorded for Capitol records from 1937-1947. He had a tremendous chord vocabulary that was quite modern for the time and played incredibly musical solos on those Nat King Cole records. This is a small excerpt in the style of Oscar Moore played over a ii-V-I. For all of you rock players what we know as the "rake" was played by jazz guitarists long before rock and roll even existed. Let's take a listen.
